Motorola Atrix Lapdock

From android motorola lovers forum, What drove a perspective change was finding the Atrix lapdock for $65 and reading good feedback.

How to get it to work:

1. Pop the plastic cover to the dock section. I gently pried with a small flat screwdriver, but probably other options.

2. Unscrew the two screws on the little metal bracket.

3. Un-wedge the little rubber spacer that is between the two connectors.

4. Gently un-lodge the connectors (not much slack in the cable, so a little tight).

5. Since the connectors orientations are flipped on the Atrix dock, you need to carve the openings on the plastic cover so they fit, flipped. The plastic is easy to carve, so I used the screw driver to carve the tiny space needed.

6. After putting back together the cables and reattaching the plastic cover, attach the Razr to the dock (Razr will be standing upside down. This seems a tad precarious, but does work (I would NOT move the dock around like this).

7. The other option is to leave the cables hanging from the bottom, but the cable on mine does not seem as long as the examples at the Photon and Razr XDA forums. Another issue is the cables are obviously not designed for this, so probably too delicate to be moved much. Alternative would be to find an extension cable combo to use, rather than the small cables, or leave standing up.

Review:

Build: Better and slimmer than the 100, but I have not messed with the 500 to compare it.

Display: Very good and to my surprise, VERY sharp. The 100 seemed a tad blurry, in spite of a 1.9” smaller display. I would expect the 10” display to be sharper, but the 11.9” is sharper. Brightness & color is good. The one negative is the display can’t be pushed back as far as some may want.

Keyboard: Better than the 100 and IMO, a lot better than the Transformer KB.

Touchpad: No multitouch, but works okay and does serve its purpose. Not great though, by any stretch. Functional is a fair description.

Performance: The full Firefox works okay and plug-ins I tried worked. Not zippy as a laptop or desktop, but works better than expected. Phone apps perform fine. Videos look very good.

USB: Mice work fine and thumbrives up to 64gb worked. Not tried a USB hard drive yet.

Summary: IMO, this device is worth up to $150. Very nice to use the connectivity of the phone beyond the phones size and connectivity constraints (without tethering)! I could see me paying a little more if had a full sd slot too.

Added: This puppy has also changed my mind about moving from the Razr. Nice combination .

This function to me (if remains tether free) is a killer "app" and can see me sticking with Moto devices if they stay firm with the concept.

Added: This size seems perfect for me, so would have been nice if VZW had this SAME dock, but fitting the Razr and other devices. The 100 did not impress me. The Atrix does.

Droid Razr Simultneous voice and data

Being 4g, can we assume both the RAZR and G-Nex will be capable of doing simultaneous voice and data? This is a #1 top priority for me due to my job. I currently have the Thunderbolt and it works great, but from the reading I've done, HTC or Qualcomm did some unique things to get it to work. Not sure if other companies are doing similar things or not. The Qualcomm chips in the TBolt allow this on a 3G data connection - it's called SVDO (Simultaneous Voice/Data). No other phone currently supports this. There's a *reasonable* chance the the Vigor/Rezound will (also being Qaulcomm based). Yes: However, any LTE phone can do this while using LTE (or wifi) data as it's a different radio. If this is a critical feature to you and you don't have solid LTE then you should probably be looking at the Vigor.

Motorola XT-910 DROID RAZR Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 8 MP Camera, Android OS, Wi-Fi, and GPS--No Warranty (Black)

Motorola XT-910 DROID RAZR Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 8 MP Camera, Android OS, Wi-Fi, and GPS--No Warranty (Black)
The new MOTOROLA RAZR is the most captivating Android-powered smartphone on the scene that not only offers a solid build and stylish design, but a range of powerful features and accessories. Measuring just 7.1mm in thickness, the Motorola RAZR is one of the thinnest smartphones on the market. Slimmer than the Samsung Galaxy S II and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, which are slim handsets anyway. The back of the device made with Kevlar (the material in bulletproof vests) fibre, to keep size and weight to a minimum but increase strength and rigidity in the phone. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the Super AMOLED Advanced screen that sits below it. Super strong, this glass will protect the device against scratches and scrapes that would normally damage any other display.
The RAZR is coated with a nano technology which makes the device splash-proof. The powerful dual-core 1.2 GHz processor lets you act as fast as you can think (finally), while the 1GB of RAM keeps the momentum going. Capture the excitement of your own life with the 8MP rear camera and 1080p HD video recording, for crisp, clear, cinematic quality images. Your video captures will be especially smooth, thanks to technology that helps stabilize the camera. And, whether your next incoming call is about dissecting the play or landing the deal, see things eye-to-eye with the front-facing HD video camera. Whether you stream or download films, the hyper-vibrant colors of the Super AMOLED Advanced display make watching films on-the-go just as thrilling as watching at home on your HDTV. And zero motion-blur technology keeps the action smooth, so you can focus on the story.
  • MicroSIM. Network: GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz; 3G/HSPA 2100/1900/900/850 Mhz. Operating System: Android Gingerbread 2.3.5. Processor: 1.2GHz Dual Core, TI OMAP 4430 (Upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). 1GB Ram Memory
  • 4.3" Super-AMOLED Advanced display - Highest Resolution Super Vibrant Display - Super AMOLED advanced with a higher resolution 256ppi screen with 25% more power efficient panel
  • Super-thin smartphone, featuring splash-guard coating, Kevlar and Corning Gorilla Glass for extra protection
  • 8MP Camera with 1080p video recording, Front facing camera. MotoCast - Wireless streaming of media from a pc to your phone. Smart Actions for efficient task completion.
  • 1780mAh battery Lithium Polymer. Talk Time - Up to 450 mins GSM, Standby - Up to 250 hours GSM
Customer review :
Got the world model in mail. Opened an realized the phone was not new. It smelled fresh glue and the back was coming off slightly in the botom part of the device. I felt like it was opened and then glued back together poorly. Went right back that same day. Hope to get my refund. Anybody buying from this supplier be careful and make sure you're getting what you have payed for. I have a LTE Galaxy Nexus for USA and was looking to get this one for my travels to Europe. May try to buy it again after get my money back. Love this model from Motorola.
Just got this phone and paid 680 USD. Prices are falling, so if you wait a bit it should be cheaper. The one I got appears to be an "import" from the UK. A couple of complaints: not so good single speaker on the back which sounds plastic-like similar those cheap clear-membrane loudspeakers, but headphones are better. And, the battery life is very short if you play games or watch movies. I have to charge it everyday. Hopefully, Moto will get enough complaints about the battery life and design a better battery for future phones. It takes the micro SIM, so I had to cut my old one to "fit" into the smaller slot - I did not want to change my number and micro SIMs are a bit harder to find in China. Overall, a good phone, thin and light to carry, and wide screen (I can't imagine what the Galaxy S2 LTE HD at 4.65 feels like - huge maybe in comparison). Video in low light is good, but nothing to write home about. So, you will pay a premium for a skinny mobile and keep the charger with you... Cheers!

Customer Review Motorola Razr XT910 :
I purchased the DROID RAZR last week and I like it a lot. Previously i owned a Nokia X6, which is also a terrific phone but a little slow by modern standards. I ordered it by standard shipping from Best n Price and surprise surprise.. they sent it the next day.. which was GREAT. I was a little skeptical as this phone is without warranty and looked a little expensive. Now,
ABout the Droid Razr -
Razr = Gorilla Glass + Kevlar + 7.1mm thick (or should i say SLIM) + 8MP camera, no need to say more about the build. Its nearly perfect.
The Razr is pretty fast and the iphone looks dwarf as compared to this. The interface is also customized and pretty cool with the 5 home screens moving in a 3D. Apps on the Homescreens can be resized, removed by a quick hold and flick of the finger (Home screens are just too cool). Android phones are all about apps and there are plenty of cool and useful apps to be downloaded from the android market which is a great asset.
MOTOCAST -
I found Motocast, the software that can sync the Droid Razr and ur laptop, pretty interesting. In the beginning it takes sometime to get used to, but once u know how it works, makes just freakin cool to download and watch, listen anything thats on my laptop ANYWHERE, yes, ANYWHERE provided the laptop is ON.
SMART ACTIONS -
Yes, this is one of the most useful app in Moto Droid Razr. Customize and make own schedules to switch on Wifi, save battery by dimming brightness when not charging, change the ringtone volume, modify screen timeout automatically. All this works in a Trigger and Action fashion which is easy to understand and conserves a lot of manual effort. AWE***SOME
I tried skype on Wifi, video was great without lag but a little echo in sound. Processes and Tasks can be monitored with pre-installed apps, which I like to do even on my laptop.
BATTERY-
Yes, it takes you through a day easily but needs charge in the night.
With all my daily tasks like Calls , Chatting (almost Whole day), browing in the evening or whenever i get time I can easily squeeze 12 -14 hrs from the Moto Droid Razr and be still left with 20% of the battery. Definitely a continuous use can drain it in 8 hrs. but the charging time is 1.5 hrs (Pretty less)
SIGNAL STRENGTH
I read in a review that the MOTO Razr can catch a signal in the most remote areas and the worst places. Voila, thats just what I wanted, I work in a place where I never used to get signal, but Droid Razr catches almost 3 - 4 bars. Sometimes it searches for the signal but very rarely. This is one of the best things about this Razr. Even the iphone (or any others I have seen with my colleagues) with a better service provider catches only 1-2 bars.
PROS - Big screen, Connectivity, Build, Motocast, Smart actions, Interface, Cool Apps, Sound, Calls, Fastest shipping I have seen
CONS - OS 2.3.5 (need the latest one ICS), No Micro SD card (with this model), Battery (could have been better), No warranty
I never write long reviews but this one deserves it.
Simply said.. THIS is a great phone and worth every penny. I love my Razr.

motorola droid razr new
Customer's Review About Motorola Droid Razr Maxx from motorola Site :
Ordered it online thru Amazon without holding it in my hand. It's bigger than I thought. Gotten used to it. Always get compliments on the looks of the phone. Screen is awesome. It's my first smart phone so I'm getting used to the features. The bad, is the battery has the worst life than any other phone I've owned since 1994! Not long after I received the phone, it wouldn't come back on after charging. I did a hard reset and reformatted the phone and all was fine, until now. It turned itself off and on again a few times last week. Today, a dozen times this morning. I have a replacement on it's way. I've only had it for 1 month and 3 weeks.
Read an earlier review about problems with AOL. No problem here. When I read mail on AOL with the RAZR, it shows read on my AOL. If I delete mail on my RAZR, it's deleted on my AOL (server). I can log on to AOL with my laptop and see the deleted, read, OR sent mails from my RAZR on my AOL account. Love it. If I mark a mail "unread", or "keep" on my AOL account, the RAZR beeps and shows the mail again...in my RAZR "Inbox".
Not sure why the OP is having a problem, but perhaps Verizon can help you configure your phone so that you have ALL mail showing on both the smart phone and the laptop. Love this device. But the battery life drives me crazy. Looking into buying a Power Pack so I can keep the charge when I'm not near a 110 or 12 volt source.
Now I know why they had the phone in a super protective briefcase on the commercial! I've broken the screen on two Razrs in less than a month. I don't know what constitutes the "Gorilla Glass", but this should definitely be considered a design flaw. I love the other features of the phone and obviously the battery will be consumed faster with 4g. Even though the broken screens may have been a result of my own negligence, I was under the impression that this phone was the most durable on the market. If you get this phone, you better get something to protect the very fragile screen!
Love this phone, except for one major flaw. I have several email accounts (corporate, gmail and AOL) that are pushed to the Razr successfully. The problem is that if I get a notification that I have new mail in AOL, and I reply directly from the email,, there is no record of that sent email EXCEPT on the Razr. Meaning, when I go to my latop and open my AOL mail, the email I sent on the Razr does not appear. Same goes vice versa: AOL emails I send on my laptop don't appear in the "sent" folder on my Razr. I have Verizon Wireless--they verified this and got Motorola on the phone with me to verify it too. Now, if I want to see email I sent from AOL, half are on my Razr and half on my latop. Really, really not cool. Gmail and corporate work fine--i can see my "sent" mail for them on laptop AND Razr.I often need to review what I wrote to someone in an AOL email, and right now I need both a laptop and a phone to see everything I sent yesterday. There is no single source of truth for my sent AOL mail. I figured out a workaround: When I get a notification on my Razr that I have new AOL mail, I open my browser to AOL and log in to answer it. That's the only way to have a record of what I sent, and it's really, really inconvenient. I know AOL is an old fogey, but really guys, so many people in this country still use it. It's not cool for Motorola to just say, " Well, sorry we can't do it right for AOL." I hope they get it together and fix this--i was raving about how great this phone was but would no longer recommend it because of this until Motorola fixes this.
that is, I guess, software based.
I actually bought it over others primarily due to the Amaloid screen which otherwise I only found on S*****s and the new one isn't out so it couldn't be part of my options - thin is nice but considering the other proportions a mill mor or less isn't that crucial - but great shirt pocket dimension - perfect - - - I don't care for top ports though.
As these things are app based there seems to be a loss of the phone concept and I miss and keep complaining about constantly having to 'hunt' for a dialpad and constantly opening the phone to some long 'expired' page/action instead of 'phone'
Now there are some great concept apps pre-installed but they miss the target or need improvement
- Favorites should also let me set an action 'one push call' or 'one push txt' not click and click through options
- Smart apps - great start - way short of what it should do = like allow different call times for certain groups, cause lets face it - family can call 24/7 bar buddies are cut of at 10 and customers at 8 (just one of the things)
- absolutely missing is some help for us old sight-limited users
also concerned with 'updates' that don't identify themselves as to ownership
Now admittedly I am new to 'smart phones' but not new to PC type machines (which basically these are) and get frustrating sorting through what apps do, which OS level or phone or provider they may work on, or what they do tht they shouldn't (scam apps)
But at the same time I also found and use 'auto-end-list' and will buck the status quo by claiming that the battery life is decent - my WiFi is on, my Bluetooth is on, my GPS is on and I can make it 2 days . . turn that screen of during non use.
Battery-
First thing i want to say is many people say how bad the battery life is, and if this makes you nervous to buy the phone, dont worry about it! i charge my phone every night, and use the smart actions, and it always makes it through the day, unless im playing games on it all day(its not that i dont have a job or anything to do, im only 13). If i do play games on it usually it makes it till the evening at least. Another thing, it can do sooo many things at once! I used to have one of the older droids and it took atleast a minute or two to download things, and about a lot of the time the Razr will download about 4-5 apps/games at one time in about 2-5 seconds, very fast, so i am not going to give the battery low stars because i think it does things so fast that it must use battery, which id rather have over a slower phone. I also have a ton of apps on here, a little over 25 that i downloaded, not including the ones already on there when i got it, and the phone is still very fast.
Phone Design-
I saw on another website that the Razr has a faster processing speed than the iPhone, which i think is pretty cool. When i first got my phone, whenever id show it to someone they always thought how cool it looks, and how thin and sleek the design is. It really, i think, is the coolest looking phone. Also, i have seen some reviews that people complain about the little bump at the top, it really isnt as bad as i was worried about before i got the phone.
Camera-
Although i am slightly disapointed about the camera, it really isnt that bad. Some of the droids have a better camera than the Razr, but the pictures actually turn out pretty good if you let it focus, and then take the picture, as it takes it very fast and does not focus first. But if you make sure it is focused, the pictures are actually pretty clear. There are also apps that correct this, i have Camera Mod.
Overall i recomend this phone and anything else people say is wrong with it really make it a bigger deal than it should be.
Great phone, but reviews regarding battery life needs some qualifications. When I first got the phone a little over a month ago, I had battery life issues, meaning that I could not go the entire day without a recharge.
Now I generally get 30+ hours on my phone between charges (< 20% battery remaining). User profile is generally one hour / data talking, tons of text messages, checking / sending personal and corporate email, maybe an hour surfing.
Here's some things to consider.
1) If you are in a "spotty" 4G location, set the phone to 3G so it doesn't waste battery life trying to get into 4G mode.
2) If you can take advantage of wireless connectivity, do it. If you are not in a wireless environment, shut it off.
3) Unless you are actually using GPS, TURN IT OFF - it is a major drain on the battery.
4) Smart Actions - I listed this last, but it should be first. Use the sample ones pretaining to "Battery Saver" that came with the phone. You have to activate them.
Like I said, I typiclly get 30+ hours now between charges.

Review Motorola Droid Razr Maxx
Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is THE LONGEST LASTING 4G SMARTPHONE, Longest battery life of any 4G smartphone, Impossibly thin, made KEVLAR® strong, 4G LTE speed and dual-core power, Despite a beefed-up battery.
From Cnet Editor's Review - The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is crafted in a very slim and attractive design that's built to withstand the occasional drop, scratch, and liquid spill. It has the same gorgeous 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and fast Verizon 4G/LTE data as its predecessor while retaining powerful multimedia chops and tight security enough features.
The bad: For such an advanced smartphone, the vague promise of a future Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is disappointing. Also, while having a bigger, stronger battery is great, it's still not user-removable. Small hands will also find it hard to wrap around the phone's wide frame, and the onboard 8-megapixel camera is not impressive.
The bottom line: The Motorola Droid Razr Maxx proves that a powerful Android superphone can remain thin yet still promise marathon-worthy battery life. If you can live without Ice Cream Sandwich and have big hands, the Maxx is extremely compelling.
Motorola Droid Razr Maxx
Editors' note: Though we have assigned a preliminary rating, we are waiting for a full battery test before assigning a final score. Also, since the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is almost identical to the original Motorola Droid Razr save for its enhanced battery, portions of this review are based on our experience with its predecessor.
Motorola ups the Android ante with its new creation, the Droid Razr Maxx. Not only does this superslim handset come equipped with all the outstanding features that graced the first Droid Razr, Motorola has thrown in an energy-dense 3,300mAh battery, too. Promised to run for days on end, the Maxx could be the longest-lasting, most powerful smartphone we've ever seen. Read on to find out if it's worth its $300 entry price.
Design
Motorola made a splash with the first Droid Razr with the bold testament that it was the thinnest Android smartphone the world has ever seen. For the company that started the thin phone craze with the original Razr V3, it was a fitting move, even if the Razr to have the trimmest chassis is always changing.
Interestingly, the company can't make the same boast with the Droid Razr Maxx. Measuring 5.14 inches long by 2.75 inches wide by 0.35 inch thick and weighing 5.1 ounces, the Maxx is slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor (0.28 inch; 4.5 ounces). Even so, it still feels very svelte and lightweight, despite its larger footprint. I also found that it fit well into my pants pocket, though with an embarrassing bulge. Of course, people with small hands (because of the wide bezel housing the display) will have trouble grasping the big-screened device. Gone, though, is the hump in the back of the phone that held the camera lens and made the first Droid Razr top heavy.
In fact, the way Motorola managed to squeeze in the Razr Maxx's more powerful battery was to fill in that hump. It was a smart design call since without the hump the Maxx feels more balanced even as it sports a thicker profile.
Virtually the same in overall thickness, the Droid Razr Maxx (left) is just as pocket-friendly as the first Droid Razr.
Not to worry, though: other Motorola innovations have remained, such as the chassis built from diamond-cut aluminum, and the thin sheet of glass in front sculpted to fit flush against the phone's edges. Just like the original Razr, Motorola coated the Maxx's back in Kevlar, which, while smooth and soft, means the battery is not removable. Thankfully the Razr Maxx features a souped-up 3,300mAh battery, compared with the Droid Razr's smaller 1,780mAh battery pack.
Many user's like the Kevlar backing. It won't stop bullets, but it does resist scratches and scuffs admirably. Another durability feature is the Maxx's "nanotechnology coating," also found on the Droid Razr, which shields the handset's innards from light moisture and klutzy spills. Don't get me wrong, it's not water-resistant so don't take it to the beach. Making the Maxx even tougher is a Corning Gorilla Glass display with a chemically treated scratch-resistant surface.
User interface
Like the Droid Razr before it, the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx runs Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with a more subtle version of Motoblur placed over it. For instance, you don't have to annoyingly create a Motorola account before using the phone like older handsets forced you to do. It's the same implementation already seen on other Motorola handsets like the Atrix 2 and the Droid Bionic. There are five customizable home screens to choose from, with more shortcuts to the phone dialer, messaging, camera, and the main menu running along the bottom. Hitting the Home button in standby mode pulls up a view of all the home screens at once, similar to HTC's Sense UI.
The lock screen displays the typical digital clock, date and battery info. To unlock, just swipe the lock icon from left to right. You can toggle the vibrate/ringer function here, too, and jump straight to the camera app. Those who liked the Droid Razr's virtual keyboard will find the same well-spaced keys, light haptic feedback, and responsiveness here. You also have the choice of using the default keyboard or Swype for fast one-handed writing.
The Droid Razr Maxx uses a lock screen that lets you toggle the ringer or jump straight to the camera.
Dedicated Droid Razr owners will appreciate the same great virtual keyboard on the Maxx. It has large buttons with lots of spacing, plus the buzz of light haptic feedback.
Features
Offering a mother lode of Android abilities, the Droid Razr Maxx has all the staples, including a few surprises, such as GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 (which supports a new generation of low-power accessories), Wi-Fi, and a mobile hot-spot capability that lets the phone act as a modem for up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Keep in mind that the mobile hot-spot feature costs about $20 extra per month on top of your voice and data plans.
The Razr Maxx also offers the usual selection of Google's apps and services, most already loaded: Gmail, Google Talk, Google Search with Voice, Google Maps with Navigation, Google Books, Places, Latitude, and YouTube. Phone and organizer functions include a calendar, alarm clock, calculator, a file manager, task list, voice command support, and speakerphone.
Other apps preinstalled include a healthy helping of free and paid software and services such as Amazon's Kindle app, Blockbuster, Let's Golf 2, Madden NFL 12, Netflix, Slacker Radio, MotoPrint, and VideoSurf. Of course Verizon added some bloatware of its own, like Device Setup, Verizon Instant Messenger, My Verizon Mobile, NFL Mobile, V Cast Tones, Verizon Video, VZ Navigator, and Visual Voicemail, which costs around $2.99 a month. Honestly the most helpful of the lot in my opinion is the My Verizon Data widget, which lives by default on the home screen and estimates your data usage to avoid being throttled or slammed with extra fees.
Corporate and government friendly
Who says you need a BlackBerry for private or public sector mobile security? Motorola doesn't think so. Also folded into the Droid Razr Maxx is support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, not to mention government-grade FIPS 140-2 encryption for e-mail, calendar, and contacts. For even more peace of mind, more-severe methods such as remote wipe, PIN lock, SD card and device encryption, and remote enable/disable of camera and Wi-Fi are possible, too.(source)
